The Auspicious Day of Ekadashi: Reflections on the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita
12 Dec 202411th Dec 2024, marks Ekadashi, a day of immense spiritual significance for humanity. It is on this day that Shri Krishna recited the chapters of the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita to Arjuna, a momentous event filled with profound teachings. As an MSW Counseling student, I feel deeply blessed to understand the importance of this day. I was recently discussing its significance with an elderly couple near me, who have always guided me with their wisdom about our rich culture, sacred scriptures, and divinely inspired spiritual practices.
Reflecting on the role of the Bhagavad Gita in Arjuna's life and the world, I observed how Shri Krishna’s guidance holds timeless relevance. The Gita was recited to Arjuna during a critical moment when he found himself in a state of deep despair on the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Overwhelmed by the sight of his own relatives and friends standing against him as enemies, Arjuna was broken, paralyzed by the weight of his emotions and the decisions he had to make.
Similarly, in our lives, we often face situations that mirror Arjuna’s dilemma. We find ourselves at crossroads, forced to make choices for our own betterment, even when those decisions may conflict with the expectations and desires of those closest to us. This can leave us feeling torn and uncertain, caught between loyalty to others and the necessity of moving forward for our personal growth.
In this moment of crisis, Shri Krishna became Arjuna’s Counselor, guiding him out of his depressive state. For me, Shri Krishna exemplifies the world’s greatest Counselor, from whom we can learn invaluable lessons about the art and essence of counseling. His interaction with Arjuna is not only an extraordinary example of one-on-one counseling but also a profound transformation of personal guidance into a universal teaching. What began as a conversation between two individuals evolved into a timeless guide for humanity, encapsulated in the Shrimad Bhagavad Gita.
The beauty of this counseling journey lies in its conclusion. After reciting the Gita, Shri Krishna tells Arjuna that his role as a guide is complete. He emphasizes that the ultimate responsibility lies with Arjuna to make his own choices. Shri Krishna declares, "I am merely a torchbearer, showing you the path forward. It is now up to you to choose what aligns with your highest good." This powerful message highlights the essence of effective counseling: empowering individuals to make their own informed decisions.
From my own life experiences, I have embraced a spiritual awakening by surrendering myself completely to God. This decision has transformed my journey in miraculous ways, for which I am profoundly grateful.
Likewise, everyone must make their own choices to navigate their life journey. As a Health Care and Wellness Advisor, I see my role as guiding others with wisdom and messages of encouragement. However, the responsibility to take the necessary steps for self-growth and development ultimately rests with each individual.
Let us all remember the eternal wisdom of Shri Krishna and strive to make choices that align with our life’s highest good.
SARVAM SHRI KRISHNA ARPANAMASTU 🙏🙏🙏
